I absolutely love EU4, and I want to work my way up to a WC run eventually (I know I have a long way to go). So, I have a question for you as an intermediate player (since you seem pretty smart about this) There are obviously LOTS more very fun and different campaigns, but I think playing these campaigns will more or less teach you the skills you will need. Kilwa - Learn advanced trade by making Zanzibar an effective end node and pushing Malacca trade into it. Malacca->Malaya - Learn to play outside of Europe, also learn intermediate trade. Savoy/Milan/Florence to form Italy - Learn to start as a medium sized nation and how to grow and manage alliances, with a taste of the frustration that is the Holy Roman Empire.īrandenburg->Prussia->Germany - Learn to deal with the HRE as an internal expander.Īustria - Learn to manage a kindergarden the HRE as the Emperor. You can then more or less ignore Europe while you exploit the New World and Africa.ĭenmark - Learn about liberty desire and managing your subjects.Ĭastile - Put all those things together into one still fairly easy campaign. This is much easier if you restart until Castile and France ally each other. Ally Castile, abandon your England alliance and try to also ally France. You learn more about alliances, Aggressive Expansion, avoiding coalitions, and dealing with the Holy Roman Empire as an outsider.

The Ottoman conquest missions should more or less direct you to who to conquer.įrance - Probably the second most powerful nation, although it gets more debatable after the Ottomans. You can learn the basics of warfare and expansion without worrying about screwing up a lot of the other mechanics, or needing to deal with powerful alliances. Ottomans - Universally recognized as the most powerful and easiest nation.

You don't have to finish them (I actually have still never played a game to 1820 in my 1900 hours play time), just play them until you've got the hang of the relevant mechanics.

These are the campaigns I suggest for a new player, in roughly the order you should try them in.
